True happiness is something that every person strives for in their life, but does it truly exist? I believe that it does, however, it is a constantly evolving process of keeping that happiness. If you look back, what made you happy at 10, 16, 22 or 31 is not the same, because desires, wants and needs change, thus changing our picture of true happiness.
Happiness and the paths to it, depend on each person. Sometimes, we need a little help to find that happiness. Finding happiness does not mean however, that we live a life without pain, disappointment, anger and sadness, we DO! But, in comparison those emotions are small in relativity to our happiness. So the question is how do we find true happiness. For me personally it comes with a couple of steps and they are:
- Be happy with who I am. This means that I am happy with my choices, decisions and lifestyle. That I am comfortable with my body and who I am as a human. (This is probably the hardest step of all!!)
- Be fulfilled in my work. Now this work can be anything, photographer, mom or CEO of a company. But I have to feel fulfilled in that role and feel that I am doing the best that I possibly can.
- Bring happiness to others. I find that when I am happy, I want to surround myself with happiness, which means bringing cheer to others. Service to others can be as simple as a cup of coffee, a bright smile or a simple hello.
After I am able to accomplish those goals, I feel that I am happy inside and not just outside. I feel whole and complete and am able to be the best person that I can possibly be. Please don’t hear me saying that I am happy all of the time; that is NOT true. I struggle, just like everyone else; in fact I am currently not in a satisfied place in my life. But it is knowing this and working to complete the three steps that I can ensure to find that happiness again.
